So, it’s the time of the year again when you’re feeling a little high-strung from the hectic pace of life as a young adult in Singapore. You desperately crave a short getaway but might not necessarily have the funds or time to hop on a plane to some exotic far-away destination. Fret not, a staycation could just be your solution. A short stay in a chalet with your friends or family can provide a comfortable respite away from work. Think lounging in bed, idle chit-chat, splitting your sides with laughter over games – not only is it great for some dose of relaxation, but a chalet is also the perfect venue for some relationship bonding.

Now that I’ve (hopefully) convinced you that a stay in a chalet is what your tired body needs, I’m sure the next burning question would be “Which chalet should I book?” Singapore may be small but she boasts a surprisingly large array of choices of chalets. Of course, we are all kiasu Singaporeans at heart: the price is important. I know what you’re thinking – “Singapore is so expensive, are there even cheap chalets in Singapore?”

2. The Chevrons

Most of us Westies groan at the thought of taking the dreaded MRT ride down to the far end of Singapore. It doesn’t help that the majority of chalets in Singapore seem to be located in the East. Well, pop your champagne and celebrate because we’ve got good news!

Located just a 10-minute walk away from Jurong East MRT, The Chevrons brings the entertainment much closer to us Westies. Each chalet unit is equipped with a personalised sheltered BBQ pit, and really, there’s nothing like laughing over a hearty BBQ meal that screams “relationship bonding” best! Furthermore, each room also has access to the swimming pool. With other available amenities such as KTV and a bowling centre, guests will be spoilt for choice.

Also, here’s the cherry on top – their chalet prices are all pretty affordable too! Rates vary for Members and the Public, as well as for off-peak and peak periods. Below is a simple breakdown of their relatively affordable chalet prices:

3. National Service Resort & Country Club (NSRCC) Chalets

Built along the seafront of East Coast, NSRCC Chalets provide a splendid view of the sea. The sound of waves crashing against the shore and the cool breeze against your face is sure to release all your stress. Furthermore, the rooms look really spacious too – perfect for large family gatherings!

What’s more, each stay is entitled to 2 free bowling games as well as free entry to the swimming pool and fitness centre. A pretty sweet deal, I must say!

NSRCC differentiates bookings via 5 categories: NSRCC Members, SAFRA Members, NS Men, Citizens and Non-Citizens. Of course, rates are cheapest for the NSRCC Members, with gradually increasing price points down the list.

Here’s a simple presentation of their rental fees for a bungalow located away from the poolside:

NSRCC Members SAFRA Members NS Men Citizens Non-Citizens
Off-Peak $115 $145 $159 $212 $284
Peak $215 $360 $403 $420 $456

If you are keen on a bungalow that is located near to the pool, prices are slightly raised:

Off-Peak $135 $165 $179 $232 $304
Peak $235 $380 $423 $440 $476

If you don’t mind the slight inconvenience or if you aren’t too big on swimming, opting for a bungalow away from the poolside could possibly save you a few dollars.

Again, members enjoy better more affordable chalet rates so rope in people who are members!

4. Villas @ Home Team NS Bukit Batok

Of course, we can’t miss out the Home Team NS chalet when we’re talking about cheap chalets in Singapore. Nestled in Bukit Batok, it’s another great alternative for people who live in the West.

These chalets can only be booked by members (Home Team NS/ SAFRA/ JOM/ Social/ PAssion). Home Team NS Bukit Batok offers 3 types of villas: Superior, Deluxe and Premier Deluxe.

The cheapest, the Superior Villa, begins at $150 per night (off-peak) for Home Team NS members. The other 4 types of memberships pay a slightly higher rate at $187 per night.

All 3 villas include access to a BBQ pit as well as complimentary WiFi. However, the difference in amenities between the Superior Villa and Deluxe Villa do seem a bit minuscule (the latter has a private balcony while the former doesn’t). Hence, if you don’t desperately need a private balcony, opting for the Superior Villa seems to be the more value-for-money choice. Meanwhile, the Premier Villa offers game consoles and board games rental on top of all the other facilities.

Here is the full breakdown of their rates per night:

Off-Peak

Home Team NS Members SAFRA/JOM/Social/PAssion
Superior $150 $187
Deluxe $182 $227
Premier Deluxe $240 $280

Peak (only for Home Team NS Members)

Home Team NS Members
Superior $257
Deluxe $289
Premier Deluxe $370

Booking during the off-peak period is definitely more worth it with savings of up to $107 for the Superior Villa for Home Team NS Members. Do plan your stay ahead of time to make sure you get the best deal!

Furthermore, there is also a current walk-in promotion. Bookings for a minimum of 2 nights during the Off-Peak period are entitled to a 30% discount. It’s a pretty good steal!

5. Civil Service Club (CSC) @ Changi

Another contender for our compilation of cheap chalets in Singapore is the Civil Service Club, otherwise known as CSC.

CSC operates two chalets at Changi, CSC @ Changi and CSC @ Changi II (former Aloha Changi). CSC @ Changi offers suites (much like hotel rooms) and villas. On the other hand, CSC @ Changi II offers chalets, cottages and bungalows, with higher price points.

A virtual tour of CSC @ Changi reveals a very modern and well-furnished environment. The rooms are spacious and are definitely great for chilling with a good drink and a book. Some rooms boast actual seafront views which is sure to lift one’s mood. Their website provides more information about the types of rooms available.

Furthermore, a stay at CSC would be a good opportunity for some exploration of Changi! Unless you stay in the East, chances are you’ve never actually walked around this part of our sunny island before. Nearby places of interest include Changi Beach Park, Changi Boardwalk and Changi Museum. You can even consider planning a day trip to the nearby Pulau Ubin as well.

Breathtaking sceneries, well-designed rooms and close proximity to attractions aside, CSC @ Changi is, most importantly, incredibly affordable. Off-peak prices start from $148 per night for the cheapest deluxe/superior suite for members. You can check out their full price list here.

6. Aranda Country Club

Finally, to end our list of Cheap Chalets in Singapore: Aranda Country Club!

Located at Downtown East, Aranda Country Club offers not only a great view of Wild Wild Wet and Pasir Ris Park, but also allows for convenient access to these attractions any time during your stay.

Aranda Country Club offers 2 types of suites: Executive and Premium. The former is cheaper, with prices starting at $180 per night (off-peak) for Aranda Country Club Members. Don’t have an Aranda Country Club membership? Not to worry, NTUC members also get a discount off the usual rate (U.P $400), with an Executive Suite costing $240 per night (off-peak). More details about their room rates can be found on their website.

It would be wise to keep your eyes peeled for promotions on their website. For Mother’s Day this year, they held a promotion event offering a 35% discount. Talk about being generous! Aranda Country Club is definitely a keeper in my book of cheap chalets in Singapore. Keep yourself updated during the next festive season and who knows? You could manage to snatch yourself a good deal!

Conclusion

Chalets can be a really great alternative for when you need a quick break or just want someplace to chill with your friends or family. The nights spent in the chalet making good conversation with loved ones, munching on a hot chicken wing fresh-off the barbeque grills, and laughing over silly jokes are sure to become precious memories.

Most importantly, you don’t have to pay an arm or a leg either for a good time. With a little planning, you can easily get a room at an affordable rate. Some tips include picking dates that fall on the non-peak period, looking out for promotion packages and booking with chalets that you are a member with for discounted rates.
